Celebrity friends have been cheering on partially-paralysed former motorbike stunt man Eddie Kidd on his epic "walk" of the London Marathon.

The 14-times champion, who nearly died in a motorbike crash almost 15 years ago, is raising money for charity. He says he is well on the way to achieving his personal goal of £50,000 for Children with Leukaemia and the Eddie Kidd Foundation, a charity started two years again to support stunt performers injured at work.

Actors Ray Winstone, John Altman and Chris Ellison joined comedian Joe Pasquale and Madness front man Suggs among others to collect for charity for Eddie at East Greenwich Fire Station in London as he completed six miles of his marathon journey. "He hurt his hamstring last night," his spokeswoman told Sky News Online, "so that's an added problem at the moment."

The man known to millions for his daredevil motorbike stunts which included leaping the Great Wall of China was horrifically injured in an accident almost 15 years ago when he suffered brain damage after a crash at a show in Warwickshire. He was in a coma for 40 days and was left with partial paralysis and major speech problems. The man who once doubled for Bond stars Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan spent three years in a rehabilitation centre and had to learn to live again in a completely different way; he uses a wheelchair.

"Eddie Kidd is an inspiration," Ray Winstone said earlier of his 51-year-old friend. "He is a proper man made from the stuff this country prides itself on - guts, honour, humanity and a will of steel". The man himself also credits his wife of a year, Samantha, for helping him in his quest, saying she is "lovely" and "superb".
