Briton Dies After 'Throat Slashed' At Bar Share
3:45pm UK, Sunday March 27, 2011

A British tourist has died after his throat was reportedly slashed by a fellow Briton on the Spanish holiday island of Magaluf.

The tragedy happened at the Plaza Cafe in Magaluf

Gary Vigors was said to have been attacked by a man with a broken bottle.

Both had been in Majorca for a cricket tour, according to reports.

Witnesses said the incident broke out as a large group of Britons drank at the Plaza Cafe.

Mr Vigor's throat was cut with a bottle and he bled to death following the fracas on Saturday, according to reports.

A customer said the incident happened outside the bar, adding that police and an ambulance attended the scene.

Spanish authorities are investigating the tragedy and a man is in police custody.

A message on the Majorca cricket club's website said two fixtures against Finedon Dolben Cricket Club on Saturday and Sunday had been cancelled.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm the death of a British national in Magaluf in Spain.

"Consular staff are in contact with the next of kin and providing consular assistance."

Sky News Online called the local police but officers would not comment on the incident.

Why do Brits abroad seem to descend to this. Do we really want the whole world to think of us as a nation of drunks, because they is how we must appear to them.
