Theresa May meets with pastor who claimed gay rights are ‘an affront to Christians’

Post by Philagain1 on Tue May 30, 2017 7:42 am

Theresa May this week worshipped with a pastor who described gay rights as “Christianophobic”.

On Sunday the Prime Minister made an unannounced visit to London’s Jesus House church, which is part of the Nigerian-based Redeemed Christian Church of God movement.

The visit, which came after the PM jetted back from a G7 Summit in Sicily, was an attempt to reach out to the church’s primarily black Christian congregation.

However, the church – which Mrs May hailed as “fantastic” and “one of the most lively growing churches in the UK” – has long faced allegations of anti-LGBT conduct.

Christian website Ekklesia previously alleged that the Church “carries out ‘exorcisms’ of people who are sexually attracted to members of their own sex”, which the strongly church denies.

Jesus House denied it practices gay ‘cure’ practices, insisting that it “does not advocate exorcism for people with same sex attraction”.

However, online materials from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, of which Jesus House is a part, do explicitly call for Christians to help gay people “repent” their sexuality.

The RCCG Sunday School materials teach: “Homosexuality is a sin and like any other sin, it needs to be dealt with in the only way possible.

“It needs to be laid at the cross and repented of. Christians should pray for the salvation of the homosexual.”

The website continues to claim that “homosexuals should be shown the love of Christ and should be restored to God’s society to escape divine judgement”

Pastor Agu Irukwu, who met with Theresa May during the visit, was a vocal opponent of the first law in the UK outlawing discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.

The pastor had signed an open letter in 2006 in which he alleged that the then-Labour government was “discriminating against Christians” in order to appease gay people.

In the letter, the pastor claimed: “The latest discrimination against Christians is the new law called the Sexual Orientation Regulations, said to combat the problem of homophobia in Britain.

“The regulations force Christians in churches, businesses, charities and informal associations to accept and even promote the idea that homosexuality is equal to heterosexuality.”

It continued: “In our view, these regulations are an affront to our freedom to be Christians… this sort of Christianophobia from the Government is no longer acceptable.”

Mrs May was absent for the vote on the 2006 law.

Her photo op with Irukwu came despite criticism of other Conservative figures.

PinkNews reported in 2009 that then-Mayor of London Boris Johnson had visited the church despite concerns about homophobia

Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Mumbo jumbo christian shit needs rooting out of British politics.

Racism would never be accepted so the same should be afforded to homophobia.

....Tried to make a comment in another section but it's only open to admin.

I hope that providing support to some doesn't mean closing/deleting all threads/comments critical of religion which is what Rags always did when she was modding elsewhere.

Moderators are sadly the same on every forum, a little bit of power goes to their heads and they start looking for reasons to justify their importance, threatening posters, locking threads, basementing and banning are held as their primary functions, and often primary objectives.

Once a mod begins locking threads, I see my days numbered on that forum, when I was invited to post and arrived on NF special Eds locked the welcome Scrat thread after a few posts, so I knew early on which way pointed to the exit.

Irn and Sassy have provided a great forum, I've known them for years, I've always defended and stuck by them, but I'm not the type of anarchic socialist to abide by the rules if I feel the rules impinge on my freedom to write what I think when I think it, in fact I get a tad peeved when my behaviour is pointed out to me, surely by now they're familiar with my application, I came to terms with my arrogance and belligerence in the fifth form, for some reason this was seen as a virtue by my tutors, and I went along with the flow.

Fortunately I'm blessed with a complete disregard for mods whoever they are, so once it starts it's always in the back of my mind and if posters are stupid enough to confront me with abuse, I'm not the type of chap to turn the other cheek, I enjoy banter, especially when it gets a little cut and thrust, even a tad malevolent.

I dont agree with banning or basementing any poster, everyone has an opinion, if you disagree with that position confront it, if you can't or you don't have the mental capacity to confront it stfu and post on a lesser subject that you're well versed in.

Raggs is a fine poster, her ice cold Christian values define a strict but often honest approach, she could have lied about Victors transgression, I know that the Didglet and many others like Mlud and Nicko would have jumped at the chance, they've done so on several occasions, but Raggs didn't and that gives her a free pass, it's not something I forget!

Monkey boy has never come to terms with his past, he's had ample opportunity to mend his ways, but he refuses to do so.

His excuse to ban me for trying to destroy his forum is a lie, I was there for years, he was forced to remove the "Goebbels label" and I did ask him on several occasions to stop referring to black people as apes, as I've served with black people and many of them are the salt of the earth, which is why when Ben called him monkey boy, I leapt at the opportunity to wind him up and so monkey boy leapt for the ban hammer.

I agree Scrat. I have no truck with Raggs. Politically we are way apart, but I have had some decent debates with her.
There are some posters I just will not engage in lengthy debate - Dean, Moletrousers Foul and Thorin are but some. I will participate in threads in which they are involved, but I choose carefully with whom I directly interact.
And I dont just suck up to those I like.
I disagree with Sassy on her Israel/Palestine stance , as I disagree with your view on hunting.
But I'm buggered if I will let things like that spoil a good forum friendship..

All lefties have one thing in common, they want a better world for everyone, tories want luxury for the few that they worship.

I accept the will of the people over hunting, Palestine is a primary reason as to so much unrest in the Middle East, but at the end of the day we all know that only a labour government works in the interests of all the people.

Monkey boy is exactly what it's says on the tin, Mlud is a lying racist BNP ponce who married into wealth, Victor is a sick and twisted miserable oldcunt and Didglet is a delicate flower that just wants to be loved!

None of them have substance enough to grow a spine!

And another one..this time it's actually a Tory candidate.

A Tory candidate has accused of being a prominent member of a church linked to so-called ‘gay cures’.

According to a report in Buzzfeed News, Kristy Adams, who is hoping to take the seat of Hove and Portslade from Labour on June 8, attended the evangelical King’s Arms Church in Bedfordshire for a number of years.

During this time, the Observer linked the church to homophobic exorcisms that claimed to ‘heal’ LGBT people.

Adams spoke on behalf of the church at external events in 2009 and 2010, including one in which she said she had helped to heal a deaf man through prayer. Her husband was also reportedly listed a director of the church between 2010 and 2013.

Speaking to the Guardian in 2010, a gay former member of the congregation said it was ‘categorically the case that homosexuality in the church was regarded as a sin, the inclination to which could be cured through prayer and counselling’.

Rags is a top notch poster who says what she thinks - even if I do disagree with her. She doesn't take any shit of anybody, right or left.

Anyway, you're way off topic Phil.
