Arrests As France Cracks Down On Extremism

Post by Guest on Wed Apr 04, 2012 9:31 am

French police have arrested ten people in raids targeting suspected radical Islamists following the deadly shootings last month in Toulouse.

Officers swooped on addresses in the southern cities of Marseilles and Valence, the northeastern town of Roubaix and two towns in the South West, a police source said.

He added the suspects were tracked on Islamist forums expressing extremist views and were preparing to travel to areas including Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Sahel belt in Africa to wage jihad (holy war).

Authorities are cracking down on Islamist extremists in the wake of the Toulouse attacks believed to have been carried out by Mohammed Merah.

It comes as France expelled a foreign radical imam on Monday and an Islamist militant and others were set to be deported to their homelands.

President Nicolas Sarkozy said there is now "zero tolerance" for hate speech and ideologies that do not conform to the values of France.

"You will see that in the weeks to come we will continue this absolutely systematic work of assuring the protection of the French by not tolerating such activities," he said of the Forsane Alizza group.

Mr Sarkozy is closing the gap in the opinion polls on his main rival, Socialist Francois Hollande, ahead of France's presidential election, with security becoming a major campaign theme.

Wish our lot had the same backbone!!

Bad news though. All the ones they chuck out will make their way here, and no doubt be welcomed with open arms, given a council house and the usual benefits.

Exactly!! makes you wonder whose side they are on. They should tell the foreign courts to get knotted.
Trouble is, they all seem as bad as each other. UKIP looks better all the time.
