Public support for GM food has halved since the mid-1990s, a poll commissioned by one of Britain’s most prestigious scientific bodies found.
Just 27 per cent of Britons agree that genetically-modified food should be encouraged - a 48 per cent drop on 16 years ago.
The poll, commissioned by the British Science Association, also revealed that almost one in three Britons is opposed to the technology in principle.
