Four men have been found guilty of murdering a shopkeeper during a robbery in Birmingham.
Suppiah Tharmaseelan, 48, was stabbed to death in front of his children at the Select Convenience Store in Kingstanding, last November.

The father of four's death was captured on CCTV.

Twin brothers Ian and John Meenan, both 27, along with Anthony Bayliss, 25, and his 19-year-old brother Liam Ryan were all convicted of killing Mr Tharmaseelan following a month-long trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

A fifth man, James Moore, 25, was cleared of the murder but will be sentenced later after admitting a charge of robbery.

This was not about robbery - it was about the murder of an innocent shopkeeper, outnumbered and set upon brutally, in a way that meant he did not stand a chance.

Tim Mousley QC
In a statement read out in court, Mr Tharmaseelan's children, aged between four and 14, called for "strong punishment" to be given to his killers.

It emerged that the children have been receiving counselling after they watched the CCTV from another room as their father was badly beaten and repeatedly stabbed.

Mr Tharmaseelan's wife Sangeetha said in a victim impact statement that her children were "extremely traumatised by what they saw".

She described her late husband as her "rock", adding: "I have lost my husband and my whole life. Everything we worked for has been ripped to pieces."

During the trial, Tim Mousley QC, prosecuting, told the jury how Mr Tharmaseelan tried "running for his life" when the men entered his store on November 27.

"This was not about robbery," he said. "It was about the murder of an innocent shopkeeper, outnumbered and set upon brutally, in a way that meant he did not stand a chance."

The four killers face a mandatory life term in prison. Mr Justice Wyn Williams will sentence them at a later date.

you can guarantee his widow, sangeetha and his fatherless children are stuck with a life sentence due to no fault of their own.

Sad

'life sentence' could mean 8 years and even then they wont serve it all, after which they will have the perfect right to stroll right back into that shop, due to their human rights

Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
