Double Rainbow over City

Double Rainbow Arcs Over Capital's Skyline

Rainbows thought to have stretched from Russell Square to Covent Garden

1:22am UK, Thursday October 27, 2011

An amazing sight of a double rainbow arcing over the London skyline ended a day of mixed weather in the capital.

It is thought the rainbows stretched between Russell Square and Covent Garden.

There may have been no pots of gold - but those lucky enough to spot the phenomenon will treasure the dramatic image.

Phenomenon happened as sun followed day of rain

A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the sun shines on to droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere

Nice pics. Not a patch on the Northern lights though. They are spectacular.

Indeed it is Sassy, and here is another beautiful experience. It is my favourite mountain walk in the whole of Scotland. The views are fantastic. Beats Ben Nevis hands down and that's not at all bad.. http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/aonacheagach.shtml P.S. usually have my coffee and sandwiches near the end of the rocky outcrop on picture two. It's places like those which brings great feelings of peace and tranquility. Only then do you realise how unimportant you are in relation to the grandeur of mountains which have stood unchanged for millions of years.

Oh don't Fred, that is where we were meant to be going on holiday until my OH's daughter borrowed the car two days before and did the gear box in!
