Gang Leader Held After Admitting 600 Murders

The alleged leader of a violent Mexican drug gang who confessed to ordering the shootings and beheadings of more than 600 people has been arrested.

Oscar Osvaldo Garcia Montoya, who authorities say heads "The Hand With Eyes" cartel, was detained in Mexico City.

Alfredo Castillo, the prosecutor for the state, said Garcia was a former corporal in the marines and a one-time police officer in northern Mexico. "He has admitted to taking part personally in 300 executions, and ordering another 300," Mr Castillo told a news conference.

The Hand With Eyes is blamed for bringing drug violence to the capital area and is known for decapitating many of its victims and dumping severed heads in the streets.

Garcia's arrest comes just weeks after the suspected leader of Mexico's deadly La Linea gang, who admitted ordering 1,500 killings, was arrested. There was a $1.2m (£730,000) bounty on offer for the capture of 33-year-old Jose Antonio Acosta Hernandez, known as 'El Diego'.

More than 42,000 people have been killed in raging drug violence since President Felipe Calderon took office in 2006 and sent the military to crush cartels.

The crackdown has led to the spin-off of numerous smaller drug rings, which are often characterised by their extreme violence as they fight to carve out turf. Garcia allegedly worked closely with late cartel leader Arturo Beltran, who was killed in a gun battle with the marines in December 2009.

He is accused of Genocide of over 30,000 of his own people...and is NOW breeding more scum here...!!!

The world needs to say tata to such scum, instead of allowing them to continue to breath other peoples oxygen and to soak up benefits funding.
