Tesco is full of chavs
'It paid for my house - but it's full of chavs': Jane Horrocks doesn't like Tesco... despite starring in supermarket's adverts
She was the face of the supermarket chain for ten years as the long-suffering daughter of Prunella Scales.
But Jane Horrocks has admitted that she doesn't like shopping at Tesco because it's full of 'chavs'.
The actress admitted that she finds it 'a bit scary' when she shops in the supermarket because of its clientele.
Speaking to Radio Times, the Absolutely Fabulous star said: 'There's always a set type of people doing their shopping according to the time or the day, whether it's pensioners holding everyone up or screeching kids.
''Or sometimes you can have rather a lot of chavs in, and that gets a bit scary.'
But Jane, 47, said she has a lot to thank the supermarket chain for as not only did it pay for her house, but it made sure she never had to do 'crap' work.
Jane lives in Twickenham, south west London with long-term partner Nick Vivian and their children Dylan, 14, and 12-year-old Molly in a house that is dubbed 'Tesco Towers'.
Jane thanks the company because the lucrative adverts she filmed for it have meant she has avoided 'sub-standard' roles.
She said: 'Tesco commercials have given me licence to avoid crap, and I'm eternally grateful to them.
'I see friends having to do shows on television, which 10 or 15 years ago they wouldn't have considered. Now they have to do them for financial reasons, because TV just isn't investing in drama in the same way.'
Every little helps: Jane said the adverts helped pay for her south west London home which she dubs 'Tesco Towers'
And it seems that Jane, who played ditsy secretary Bubble in Ab Fab - a role she hopes to resume when filming begins on a new series next month - can't avoid supermarkets.
In her new show, Trollied, which starts on Sky next week, she plays Julie, an aspiring supermarket manager.
Jane said: 'I'm obsessed by the workplace in terms of comedy. I find it endlessly fascinating. There are so many nuances and petty, arbitrary hierarchies. No matter what position you're in, everybody has somebody to look down on. I love that.'

Tesco, full of chavs, really?
I would say Lidl and Netto and Aldi are to be honest.

Not really qualified to answer this question. Hubby does the shopping, it's easier than putting up with my temper tantrums plus, he likes it, crazy!

Stick to the internet Seren

I do mine online and get it delivered. I now am friends with the delivery man and they bring it right into the kitchen for me. Haven't managed to get them to put it away yet, but I'm working on it!
