New York Gay Marriage Laws

Post by Seren on Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:38 pm

Katy Perry and took a break from her California Dreams Tour to celebrate the giddiest Gay Pride March that New York has ever seen.

Flanked by her dancers, the 26-year-old posed in a black hat, shades and shorts while waving the rainbow flag of Gay Pride in a picture that she uploaded to her Twitter account.

She wrote alongside the picture:' We out celebrating #EQUALITYFORALL!'

Celebrities across the world have marked the Gay Pride and the Marriage Bill being passed in New York State.

Lady Gaga performed in Rome for Euro Pride, in a deal that was brokered by Hilary Clinton.

In San Francisco, singer Aubrey O'Day, 27 , and her dog, Ginger, celebrated atop of the Virgin America float.

Back in New York, Katy Perry was joined by someone who surely inspires many of her stage outfits, Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter, 59.

This year's parade in Manhattan's West Village is truly jubilant because it also heralds the legalization of same-sex marriage in New York State.

'The next march is going to be down the aisle,' yelled City Council Speaker Christine Quinn announced to ecstatic whoops from the busy streets.

Hundreds of signs were held aloft praising Governor Andrew Cuomo, who promised to make same-sex marriage a reality in New York during his campaign last Autumn, and delivered on his word in just six months.

Despite Perry's presence, Democrat Cuomo was the parade's main attraction.

Onlookers reported how the crowds cheered along Fifth Avenue but that the yelps of recognition became deafening as the cavalcade turned into Christopher Street, with many people bursting into tears of joy.

Mayor Bloomberg, Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer were other suits who loosened up for the happy event.

Same-sex marriage will be legal in the state from July 24.

I think this is great news, and since anyone in America can now go and get married in New York it would seem the next logical step would be state wide legalisation of Gay Marriage.

We are being left for dust it seems, but I think that change will come here within the next 2 years Very Happy

Let's hope so Eilzel. I'm been reading a little about this following Seren's post and I've yet to find any reasonable reasons why gay marriages should be illegal other than prejudice Sad

There is, in fairness, a strong religious argument for opposition. The Bible states clear enough its disapproval of homosexuality and the idea of Marriage being purely for the sake of procreation.

My argument to that is that so many Biblical laws are ignored this one should not be given higher status. You can now be divorced and remarried, which is also against the Bible.

Also, I'm sure you will agree, society has moved on now to a point where 'procreation' is not to be all and end all (we are in fact, overpopulated) and marriage should be primarily about dedicating yourself to the one you love Smile

Only coldly stubborn religious folk would be against this, who as you say, simply harbour ancient prejudice Evil or Very Mad

Well all the bigots hate the use of the word marriage for gays. I remember on Sky what if we used the word UNION? You know it is exactly the same thing... Very Happy

If it's one thing my year of posting on Sky/ADO/ES has taught me it is that religion is used by many to achieve their own agenda's and excuse their behaviour. Evil or Very Mad

I do not accept religion as a strong argument. Marriage should be about love, about committment.

It's not just about kids, believe me I love you x

Hi folks. David & Eilzel, would you be kind enough to pop back to 'women really do have a gaydar...' I'd like your opinions.
